Staycation in the Netherlands, or better, a nice vacation with family in times of Covid-19 that turned out to be a really fun and relaxing one! This year no mountains and epic hikes or glaciers at you doorstep, but a relaxing Dutch landscape and family around. In search of wildlife and especially birds.

We all know the time we live in at the moment, however we can make the best of it. That meant that we went camping in Friesland and Drenthe, Provences in The Netherlands. The first a water rich area with many birds.

The second a forest and moor (heather) area in the east of The Netherlands. The latter turned out to be a real surprise. Nice forests with open fields with flowers and beautiful areas with heather and sand dunes.

It still was a family holiday, so we hiked, visited places (can recommend Leeuwarden) and enjoyed nature. Speaking of nature, I took the Fujifilm X-T3 and 100-400 lens with me of course! Trying to find and capture some wildlife, especially the birds in Friesland.

This was a lot more challenging than I thought. The birds were in abundance, but where far away, well hidden or just to fast to really get some stellar photos. Nevertheless I got some nice ones, not portfolio material, but still nice to find, see and capture.

In the end I also stumbled upon a deer having a stare down with me. I guess I won, because it quickly ran away. No harm done, just was such a coincidence.

All in all it was a challenge to spot and capture these birds, see if you can spot them as well! Again, still was fun to do so and was a good exercise to up my handholding bird spotting and photographing skills ;-)

Anyway, see you soon! And don’t hesitate to leave a comment or an e-mail. All photos are taken with the Fujifilm X-T3 and the Fujinon 100-400mm. Click to view larger in a light box and navigate with mouse or arrow keys. Enjoy!
